These terms are the agreement between you and us for your use of learnjapaneseonlinehub.com. By using the site you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.

1. Who you are dealing with

Learn Japanese Online is a trading name of Lunar Interactive Arts Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 12044811), registered office 102 Lady Margaret Road, London N19 5EX. In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean that company, and "you" means the person using the site.

2. What the site is

Learn Japanese Online teaches Japanese through structured courses, reference material, spaced repetition and handwriting practice. It is a self-study resource. It is not a school, it is not a qualification, and it is not affiliated with any examining body.

3. Free and paid access

A substantial part of the site is free and stays free: the hiragana, katakana and kanji charts, the vocabulary and grammar references, the practice tools, the situation guides, the printable charts, and the first seven days of each course.

The rest of the course content requires a paid subscription. Prices, plans and what each includes are shown on the pricing page before you buy.

4. Accounts

• You need an account to subscribe and to sync progress across devices.
• Give us an email address you can actually receive mail at. Renewal notices and password resets go there.
• Your account is personal to you. Do not share your login. One subscription covers one person.
• You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access to it.
• You can delete your account at any time from your settings.

5. Subscriptions, billing and cancellation

Recurring payments

There is one paid plan and it is billed monthly. It renews automatically each month at the then-current price until you cancel. There is no minimum term.

Cancelling

You can cancel at any time, from your account settings or the billing portal, without contacting us and without giving a reason. Cancelling stops the next payment. You keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for, and we do not pro-rate a partial period.

Lifetime access

Lifetime is a single payment for access to this site for as long as we operate it. It is not a promise that the site will exist forever. If we ever had to close the site down we would give notice and, where a lifetime purchase was recent, a proportionate refund.

Price changes

We may change prices. An increase never applies to a period you have already paid for, and we will give you at least 30 days notice by email before it affects a renewal, so you can cancel first if you would rather.

Failed payments

If a payment fails we will retry it and email you. If it keeps failing, access reverts to the free tier. Your progress is not deleted, and it comes back if you resubscribe.

6. Your right to cancel, and refunds

If you are a consumer in the UK or the EU you normally have 14 days to change your mind about a digital purchase and get a full refund.

There is an exception you should understand before you buy. When you start using paid content inside those 14 days, you are asking us to begin supplying it immediately, and by ticking the box at checkout you acknowledge that you lose the 14 day right to cancel once supply has begun. That is the law, not a policy we invented. If you buy and do not open any paid content, the 14 day right is unaffected and you get a full refund on request.

Beyond that, our own policy is more generous than the law requires. If you are within 14 days of a first purchase and the site is not what you hoped, email support@learnjapaneseonlinehub.com and we will refund you. We would rather give the money back than have someone paying for something they do not use. We may decline repeated refund requests from the same person.

None of this affects your statutory rights if the service is faulty or not as described.

7. Accuracy of the Japanese

We take this seriously and we are also honest about it. Every Japanese item on the site is checked by a native speaker before publication. Even so, languages are ambiguous, usage varies by region and register, and mistakes are possible.

The content is provided for learning, in good faith, without warranty that every item is correct for every context. If you find an error, please tell us at support@learnjapaneseonlinehub.com. We fix errors quickly and we are grateful for them.

Nothing here is affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the Japan Foundation, JEES or the official JLPT examination. Information about the exam is guidance only, and you should confirm dates, fees and requirements with the official examination body.

8. Your progress data

With an account, your progress is stored on our servers and synced between your devices. Without an account it lives only in your browser, and we cannot restore it if you clear your browsing data or change device. You can export your progress from your account settings at any time.

9. Acceptable use

You may use the site for your own learning, and teachers may use it with their classes. You may not:

• copy, scrape or republish substantial parts of the content as your own;
• resell or redistribute access, or share a paid account with others;
• attempt to break, overload, probe or gain unauthorised access to the site;
• use automated tools to extract content at scale;
• use the site to build a competing dataset or model.

Printable charts and worksheets may be printed and used freely for personal study and in a classroom, with the source line left visible.

If you seriously or repeatedly break these rules we may suspend or close your account. If we close a paid account for this reason we will refund the unused part of the period.

10. Intellectual property

The lessons, explanations, mnemonics, memory hooks, guides, design, artwork and code of this site are owned by us and protected by copyright. The Japanese language itself is not, and individual words, characters and common phrases are of course free for anyone to use and teach.

Where the site names third-party products, organisations or martial arts styles, those names belong to their respective owners and are used descriptively.

Third-party material we use

The stroke order diagrams come from KanjiVG, created by Ulrich Apel and contributors, and are used under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 licence. We have changed the original by rounding the coordinates and regrouping the data for this site. That stroke data, and our changes to it, remain available under the same licence. Nothing else on this site is covered by it.

11. Availability

We aim to keep the site available at all times but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may carry out maintenance, and we may change or remove features. If we withdraw a feature that was a significant part of what you paid for, you can cancel and we will refund the unused part of your period.

12. Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude liability for any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the site, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are not affected by anything in this section.

13. Links to other sites

The site links to other websites, including the other sites in the Learn Languages Online network. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of sites we do not operate.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the site develops. The date at the top shows when they last changed. For changes that materially affect your rights we will email account holders at least 30 days beforehand. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms; if you do not, you can cancel.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK you may also bring proceedings in your local courts, and if you are a consumer in the EEA you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of your country of residence.
