好き and 嫌い, likes and dislikes

[Thing] が好きです / 嫌いです

Like and dislike are な-adjectives in Japanese, not verbs, and the thing liked takes が.

The mistake to avoid

を is wrong here. 寿司を好きです is one of the most recognisable beginner errors.

Examples

寿司が好きです。

すしがすきです。

I like sushi.

納豆が嫌いです。

なっとうがきらいです。

I don't like natto.
